Working Areas

There are broad numbers of issues where EJG undertakes its activities and gives special emphasis in order to raise the quality of education. Specifically, the activities are classified broadly in three categories:

1. Knowledge management

2. Capacity Building

3. Agenda Setting

1. Knowledge management

Knowledge has always been most important assets, but nowadays it seems inconceivably more important than ever. However, EJG is planning to equip itself in such a way that a competitive advantage is realized. Therefore, it aims to undertake activities related to the explicit and systematic management of vital knowledge and its associated processes of creating, gathering, organizing, diffusion, use and exploitation, in pursuit of organizational objectives. Resource center development, Study on the inside history of Nepalese education, Education article indexing, Compilation of selected articles in education are the activities that EJG has provisioned under Knowledge Management.

2. Capacity Building

Bit reporting in Nepalese media is a very new phenomenon. Many of the mainstream newspapers have specially assigned bit-reporting units in their publication houses. Yet, these journalists are not aware of many issues in education journalism.

Given this context, there is a pressing need of developing the capacities of these journalists. Therefore, EJG proposes to undertake capacity-building activities of its fellow members who report and analyze the education issues. Activities of EJG under Capacity Building include Empowering Journalists with the Information Equipments, Orientation and Training, Fellowship, Providing Journalists with the English Language Advanced Courses, Study tour, etc.

3. Agenda Setting

By the identification of the issues to be advocated for policy changes and improvement in areas of education, EJG continuously lobbies with different national and international governmental and non-governmental organizations. Its agenda setting advocacy programs are attuned to improve the access to quality education encouraging the good stories and setbacking the problems. Agendas will be set to eliminate gaps and differences in education in the country, and advocate the public education system highlighting the role of government as facilitator and teacher as change agents. All of its agenda setting activities are attuned to its vision, mission, and objectives.

In addition, it organizes regular interactions for the advocacy of certain facets of education that need to be emphasized in the changing context and age. For the advocacy activities, it invites representatives from different walks of life and seeks their opinion and views to come to a conclusion. The participants in the advocacy programs include members of Ministry of Education and Sports including the Minister, Secretary, spokesperson, Professors, education experts, students and their unions, parents and guardians, and the media person. Specifically, the activities of EJG involve Bulletin Publication, Wall Newspaper Publication, Case Study Reporting, Audio-Visual Program, Feature Service, Interactions, Journalist's Network Development, etc under the advocacy level, and Magazine Publication, Investigative Reporting, Study on Educational Issues, Media Research, Study, Monitoring and Evaluation of the Impact of Armed Conflict in Education, Production of Book on Education for a Better Tomorrow, etc under the policy and pressure level.
